The time has come to document the history of PCP (phencyclidine)
- its synthesis, early pharmacology, clinical
use and disappointment. No one associated with the early
development of PCP would have, in their wildest imagination,
predicted that this drug would be abused to the
extent it has been in the United Sates in the past few
years. Hence, a reexamination of the PCP problem and the
need for a current perspective. This book provides both
points of view. It is the outgrowth of a workshop held in
San Juan, Puerto Rico, December 13, 1979 under the auspices
of the American College of Neuropsychopharmacology.
However, a number of additional investigators have submitted
material that was not part of that meeting and this
also is incorporated in this book. All chapters cover
relatively new material which attempts to summarize the
progress of a very rapidly changing field.
